Non-Toxic Paints & Finishes

As part of our tireless commitment to the safety of children and the environment, we searched high and low for the safest finishes we could find. We apply two coats of paint to our beds, and hand sand after each coat. We finish with an all-natural clear coat that protects the finish and minimizes smudges and scratches.

Your Choice of Milk Paint or Stain:

Milk Paint

Known as “The Greenest Paint There Is,” Old-Fashioned Milk Paint is organic and safe—not only for people, but for the environment as well. The ingredients in the base paint are used in the food and pharmaceutical industries, and are all completely biodegradable. Milk Paint is 100% free of:

  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs)
  • Solvents or harmful poisons of any kind

  • Lead

  • Mercury

  • Radioactive materials

  • Petroleum byproducts

  • Plastics

  • Synthetic preservatives

  • Any strong odor (just a slight milky scent on application)

Milk Paint is safe for anyone who has multiple chemical sensitivities, pregnant women, use on children’s furniture and toys, and use on hospital and nursery walls. Milk Paint will not support combustion in case of a fire. See color options.

Stains & Clear Coats

All our painted and stained beds are sealed with Vermont Natural Coatings semi-gloss poly-whey scratch-resistant finish. You also have the option of skipping the paint and choosing a clear coat of finish instead. PolyWhey natural finishes are made from recycled whey protein and surpass the strictest indoor air-quality standards with ultra-VOC levels. See color options.
