At Maine Bunk Beds we are committed to the safety of children and the environment so we have looked high and low for the safest finishes we could find. Your Maine Bunk Bed will be made with Old Fashoned Milk Paint, "The Greenest Paint There Is"

"Milk Paint is organic paint and is safe not only for people, but also for the environment. The ingredients in the base paint are used in the food and pharmaceutical industries, and are all completely biodegradable.

Milk Paint is totally free of:

Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs), Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs), solvents or harmful poisons of any kind
Lead
Mercury
Radioactive materials
Petroleum by-products
Plastics
Synthetic preservatives
Any strong odor (just a slight milky smell on application)

Milk Paint is completely safe for:
Anyone who has Multiple Chemical Sensitivities.
Pregnant women
Use on children's furniture and toys
Use on hospital and nursery walls

Milk Paint will not support combustion in case of a fire.

Maine Bunk Beds also use Old Fashioned Milk Paint Clear Coat - Water-borne Acrylic

"Our CLEAR COAT is a water-borne acrylic. When applied over Milk Paint it protects the paint finish against water-spotting, dirt and abrasion. It also increases scrubbability. It is preferred by custom furniture builders, interior designers, craftsmen and do-it-yourselfers. It is environmentally safe and non-toxic, and has no odor when dry.

CLEAR COAT is used as a finish top-coat over Milk Paint. It can be used for furniture, woodwork, and is safe to use on children's toys. Clear Coat (or similar acrylic sealers) will not protect against certain kitchen oils such as grease splatters and olive oil spills, therefore an oil-based sealer is recommended for such surfaces as kitchen cabinets. For floors and other surfaces expected to receive heavy wear we recommend the use of a more durable top-coat specifically designed for that purpose.
